Jesse Robert “J.R.” Ketchum, age 86, graduated to heaven on Friday, February 9,
The youngest of 8 children, J.R. spent his childhood years on a farm in Rogers, Tx
before moving to Everman in his teenage years. He made his mark at Everman High
School by being the captain and star of the basketball team, as well as being the
President of the senior class and Business Manager of the annual. His classmates also
voted him Most Popular and Basketball King before his graduation in 1950.
J.R. was a combat veteran of the Korean War where he earned several medals. He was
very proud to have served his country to defend our freedoms.
Mr. Ketchum’s success as a machinist for Gearheart Owen, S.I.E., and later, Owen Oil
Tools can be directly attributed to his work ethic and his natural abilities with
calculations and precision. His attention to detail was legendary and his reputation
preceded him in the industry. J.R. finally retired from his craft in 2005 at the age of 73 to
become the fulltime caretaker of his wife who had suffered a stroke.
Mr. Ketchum spent his life giving his all to take care of his family. He was an incredible
husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived
by his wife of 64 years, Patsy; Son, Scott Ketchum and wife, Carol; Son, Ross Ketchum
and wife, Patty; and Daughter, Keli Terrell and Husband, Donny. He also leaves behind
10 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren who idolized and adored their “Peep”.
The family will receive family and friends this Monday evening, February 12
th, 6:00 pm –8:00 pm at Alpine Funeral Home, 2300 N. Sylvania, Fort Worth. Graveside service
Tuesday, February 13th 1:00 pm at Everman Cemetery, 834 E. Enon Ave., Everman
