Jimmy Ray Garrett, 72 of Fort Worth passed away April 11, 2017 after courageously fighting heart disease for over 20 years surrounded by his loving family in the hospital. He was born on April 10, 1945 in Fort Worth.
Jimmy loved Elvis and singing to his songs, being around the ocean, Nascar, crossword puzzles, watching westerns, fishing, in his earlier years he was a great pool player at his favorite hangout spot, The Bluebonnet, he loved telling stories and being around family and friends. There was no greater love than the love he had for his granddaughters, they were the light of his life, his pride and joy. He was known as "Papa" to them.
Jimmy was an Army veteran and proudly served his country. One year after his service he would meet his wife, Lynda. They were married February 5, 1969.
Jimmy was a hardworking man that would do anything to support his family. His family was always the most important thing to him. He was very intelligent, loving, quick witted, funny, honest, supportive, strong, courageous and brave. The rock of his family.
Jimmy leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Lynda Garrett; his daughter, Shona Widman and her husband Jason Widman of Fort Worth; his daughter Charon Cagle and husband Darren Cagle of Fort Worth; two beautiful granddaughters, Kayla Widman and Lauren Cagle of Fort Worth; one brother, Michael Dudley of Coalgate, Ok; one sister, Kathy Dudley of Coalgate, Ok; nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Charon of Coalgate, Ok; his father, Jess Garrett of Saginaw, Tx; and brother Buck Garrett of Fort Worth.
Visitation 6pm-8pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at Alpine Funeral Home
Graveside Service 11am Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Mount Olivet Cemetery
