Carolyn Manners Crofts Webster

January 28, 1931 — July 25, 2020

Carolyn (Carol) Manners Crofts Webster, age 89, left her earthly home peacefully and with her loving family by her side, at Community Hospice Care in Crowley, Texas, on July 25th, 2020, Carol was born in Austin, Texas, on January 28, 1931, the first of four children born to Sutton Phillip and Mary French Crofts. The family moved to Cisco, Texas, when she was a small child. Carolyn lived in Cisco throughout her formative years, then attended college at North Texas State College in Denton and at the University of Texas in Austin. She remained an enthusiastic, lifelong Longhorns fan. Returning to Cisco after college, Carol married James Hughes Webster, with whom she had four children — Brenda Carol, James (Jay) Hughes, Jr., Hubert William, and Laurie Anne. Carol and her children later moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she lived the rest of her life. She worked in the insurance industry and pursued many interests and passions throughout her lifetime. Carol was a talented painter and an avid reader, a lover and supporter of the natural world and the environment, animals, music and the arts. She rescued and doted on many pet cats over the years and had a talent for growing a wide variety of stunning houseplants. Carolyn was an active member and sang in the choir at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Ft. Worth for decades. She also played clarinet in the Fort Worth City Band and took up tap dancing in her retirement years. She traveled extensively within the United States and abroad, often with her sister and her beloved parents. Carolyn will be remembered fondly for her sweet and charming disposition. For the past decade, she and her family navigated the realities of Alzheimer’s disease while taking turns caring for Carol at home. Through it all, her gentleness of spirit never wavered. With her inimitable aesthetic and style, Carol both radiated and appreciated beauty in all its forms. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all of her family and friends. Carolyn Crofts Webster was preceded in death by her parents, Sutton and Mary Crofts, of Cisco, Texas; her brother, Robert Sutton Crofts, of Orange, California; and two of her children, Brenda Carol Webster and Hubert William Webster. She is survived by her son, James (Jay) Webster, Jr. and wife, Jan; daughter, Laurie Webster Van Horn; sister, Dorothy (Dot) Crofts Mittel; brother, Darrell (Dash) Crofts and wife, Louise. Other survivors include grandchildren, Lindsey Koval and daughter, Sydney; Bailey Webster; Mariah Webster; Wyatt Webster; and Taylor Van Horn; nieces, Aimee Tullos; Donna Crofts Lawheed and husband, Dennis; Lua Crofts Faragher and husband, Scott; Amelia Crofts Dailey and husband, Sean; nephews, Phillip Tullos and wife, Debbie Strand; Gregory Sutton Crofts; Faizi Crofts and wife, Sun Rui; multiple great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her dear lifelong friend, Frances Halstead Estes. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Alpine Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. Graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, in Cisco, Texas, on Thursday July 30th, 2020 at 1:00 P.M.
