James Dwight Whatley

James Dwight Whatley, 73, of Sansom Park, passed away on October 21, 2022. Jim was born on September 14, 1949 and was adopted by David and Faye Whatley. After graduating from Castleberry High School in 1966, he studied at Arlington State College (now UTA) and pursued a career in public service. Jim served as a patrol officer in Haltom City, Lake Worth, and River Oaks, as well as a dispatcher in Haltom City, River Oaks, and Sansom Park. He also worked in private security at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, NV and in other venues. Additionally, Jim was a retired colonel of the Texas State Guard Association.
Jim loved music, Dutch chocolate ice cream, and catching up with friends at the pub. He took pride in being a lefty with impeccable penmanship, and in his extensive collection of die-cast law-enforcement vehicles. Jim loved trivia and never tired of banter with family and friends over any topic of conversation.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his parents. He is survived by four daughters and their husbands, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many lifelong friends. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Alpine Funeral Home at 2300 N. Sylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76111,
on Thursday, November 10th from 6-7pm
