A proud Marine, Darell was well known and respected in hs community. He was blessed with 81 years filled with the love of his family. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, was a great listener, and had a contagious passion for life. True to his caring and compassionate nature, Darell always put the needs of others before his own. Although he was a private and quiet man, his sence of humor could catch you off guard and instantly fill a room with laughter. He was an avid reader, descriptive and engaging story teller and loved watching old westerns and cheering on his home football team, Dallas Cowboys. He had a true appreciation for the outdoors and loved fishing at the water’s edge. He was always an early riser, loved to watch the sunrise, and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family on outdoor adventures.
It was the simple things in life that brought him the greatest joy and that he never took for granted. Above all, Darell treasured his family. He was absolutely devoted to his wife Linda, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage and a bond of love so unique and so very rare. He respected, cherished, trusted and loved her unconditionally, He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love. He held tight to the promise of beauty and peace that he knew awaited him after his passing. Though we are heartbroken, those of us who loved Darell look forward to being reuited with hm at the waters edge of eternity.
Darell is survived by his wife Linda, his children Allen, Steve, Theresa and Cindy, their spouses Karen, DeeDee, Jim and Dave and their children and grandchildren, his brother Herbert and his niece Carla, her husband Joe and their children and grandchildren.
We will always remember his last days of laughter, singing songs, telling stories, fishy-lip kisses and the special winks that came from across the room. He fought a good fight and now he he is safe and secure in the arms of his Savior. Darell will be sorely missed.
I leave you with the hope of one of Darell’s favorite verses.
