George Lee Bettes was born August 14,1937 in Galveston, Texas to George Houston Bettes and Ruby Lee Bettes. He passed from this life on June 2nd 2024. He lived most of his life in Texas until joining the US Marine Corps G Co., 7th Marines, US Navy from 1955 to 1981. He served as All Navy Cartoonist in 1966. George loved to share his drawings with his family, friends, and the sailors assigned to Naval Station, Joint Reserve Base Ft. Worth.
He volunteered at Harris Southwest Hospital for many years as well as Huguley Hospital for 7 years. He recently moved to Heritage Place in Burleson Texas where he was very happy and loved by all his friends. He enjoyed an active social life and took great pride in spending time with fellow veterans and active service members. George loved his church family as well and attended The church at Benbrook where he enjoyed 
being a greeter.
George is survived by his two daughters, Christine M. Dickson and Wendy H. Floyd, brother James Bettes, sister-in-law Sharon Bettes and nieces Melissa Bettes and Jennifer Matthews. George was also the proud grandfather to six granddaughters and one grandson as well as 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his lifelong friend Don Stogsdill. 
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26th @ 10:15 am at the DFW National Cemetery 200 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas. Please arrive at least 15 mins early to line up. All are invited to attend.
