Larry Boyd Richards, Big Daddy to his grandchildren, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of his wife, on December 22, 2024 at the age of 77. His family and dearest friends will remember him in their hearts as a fun, loving, kind soul and he will be missed dearly.
Larry was born to Guy and Betty Richards on May 18, 1947. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business. He enjoyed a career in sales at Yellow Freight where he met his lifelong best friend, Roy Beans. Larry married Kerry on January 16th 2003 and adored her every day since. Larry and Kerry built a Real Estate business together until he retired.
Larry was loved by all who met him. He was the life of the party, always cutting up and getting into mischief. He enjoyed gardening and working on a project car, often a jeep or old Chevy that he could take off-roading or haul around some grandkids on an adventure.
An eternal optimist, Larry was patient, kind, and easy going. He was also quick witted and loved to joke. "Big Daddy, what are you up to?" "Oh...about 200 or 205". He also liked to come up with fun games to play like "transportation night". How many different modes of transportation can we take tonight? When they were young, Larry liked to take his daughters out driving in his old Chevy pickup. He would kill the engine on hills and then bump start it at the bottom and all would giggle when it would roar back to life and backfire.
When his granddaughter, Peyton, was born she was placed on a ventilator and was in the NICU. Larry, upon hearing the news, drove 5 hours to Houston, guessed which hospital she might be in, and showed up at just the right time to see Kim and Robert leaving the ward. He hugg them and met his granddaughter and gave her a kiss. It was exactly what they needed at such a traumatic time.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kerry; Daughters Kimberly (Robert) Mackey, Courtney (Stephen) Osborne, and Lauren (Case) Watkins; Grandchildren Jordan (Caitlin), Carter (Breanna), Peyton, Madison, Cayden, Jayci, Charis, Drew, and Blake; and Brother Steve Richards.
