Martin M. Nichols

January 13, 1951 — October 13, 2020

Martin M. Nichols (obituary) Martin Nichols, (69 years old) after a lengthy illness, passed peacefully away to Heaven on Oct.20, 2020.  On Wednesday, Oct. 28th we will celebrate his home-going at Alpine Funeral Home in Ft. Worth (11:00 AM), then he’ll be buried at the DFW National Cemetery in Arlington, TX (1:15PM). His casket will have a military flag and taps will be played by the Navy. He was well loved and cared for by the family members he left behind: wife, Sonja Wilkins; daughter & family, Amy Jost, Don Jost, Megan-Colin-Joshua-Aiden Jost.  All 8 of us have lived together and worked as a good family unit since 2016 and Marty will be sorely missed and our lives will be so different.  And NiCole and her daughter, Courtney. His mother, Christine Nichols and dad, C.L. Nichols preceded him in death; both are buried at Forrest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, La. Also, he leaves behind his brother, Kevin Nichols of Bossier City, Louisiana and Kevin’s son, Matthew; his sister, Linda Thames of Shreveport, Louisiana and her children, Trey Thames and Bridgette Banks.  His first cousins, Susan and Jimmy Cosse of Kansas, Robert Hamm and Kenny Hamm of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Nell Zack of Atlanta, Georgia will miss him, also. In the military, Marty spent four years in the Navy, two years in reserves and had two tours in Viet Nam; then spent 32 years working for KCS/L&A Railroad as an engineer. Marty lived a very hard life of unforgiveness, anger and bitterness, but after joining Gateway Church and our great Home Team (Children of God), his life turned around: he truly asked Jesus to be Lord of his life, he forgave everyone in his past and made many new friends and when he was in good health, he was regular in church and home team meetings!  He truly had a character change in the last few years of his life!  Now he resides with Jesus.
