Major Shelton Wayne Alsup (Retired), 85 years old of Kennedale, Passed away on June 15, 2024 at Medical City Arlington, Arlington, Texas.

Shelton was born September 29, 1938, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to the late Carl Algut Alsup and Neva Oliva Davis. Shelton always spoke of his childhood as being "dirt poor" and frequently eating beans for dinner and working in the fields picking crops. He enlisted in the California National Guard as a Private E-1 on March 19, 1959. He was honorably discharged after 3 years of service and re-enlisted as a Specialist 3 on March 19, 1959 for a period of 3 years. Shelton was honorably discharged from the California National Guard in the grade of Sergeant E-5 on July 11, 1961 when he enlisted in the United States Army on July 12, 1961. His tour of duty stations included-Dachau, Germany, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and Vietnam. He retired from active duty with the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Major on September 31, 1980. Earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Service Stars, Army Commendation with First Oak Leaf Cluster; two Over Seas Service Bars, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Good Contact metal (second award) along with others. Major Alsup also ranked as an expert with a pistol (.45 cal), sharpshooter (M-16 rifle).

After his retirement from the military, he was employed at Lockheed Martin as Deputy Director in the Missiles and Fire Control division in Dallas, Texas. He also qualified as a member of MENSA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Genevieve and brother, Carl.

Shelton is survived by his wife Renate Martha Alsup; his daughter Nicole Worley; grandchildren, Laura Workman and Donald Worley; great grandchildren, Kendyll, Brayden, Waylon and Adallynn. As well as his sister Geneva.

Committal service with full army honors will be held at 11:15 A.M., Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain View Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.

The family would like to express thanks to the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders for providing an escort to the internment site, and request that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
